Newsflash

The Lisbon Treaty is an important reference tool for the EPH Annual Meetings to take place each year in another Member State or Regiion of the European Union. Apart of vision in technology, toward a knowledge society, and vision in innovation, the EPH Annual Conferences are also part of knowledge based social innovation. The Future Annual Meetings also intend to pay attention to the role of the European Union toward issues of global interest & world wide human, social and sustainable development.

The EPH Potsdam Work Programme
Sunday, 02 January 2011 00:00

The 2d EPH Annual Meeting on Environnment and (Public) Health - research and prevention took place in Berlin-Potsdam 7-9 November 2011. One big issue at the Annual Meeting conference was the question if a second cycle of an E & H Action Plan of the European COmmission and its priorities would follow the first cycle of 2004-2010. Basis for discussion was the EPH Brussels Statement, released on 16 November 2010 and the FINAL REPORT of the European Commission on the Environment & Health Action Plan 2004-2010.The EPH Annual Conference in Potsdam highlighted the state of the art on research and prevention in environment and public health. The Annual Meeting also exploited the results of both EU funded and otherwise funded projects during the  E & H Action Plan 2004-2010 (EHAP) of the European Commission, as well as preliminary reports of new projects funded or not by the EU. A limited number of issues were presented in Potsdam by facilitators of some 5 working parties (or EPH Sections) being established on a voluntary basis. The work ahead within the EPH Programme.Platform concept has been given the name of EPH Potsdam Work Programme.

First historical EU & Global E & H Conference on Research & Prevention (1993) Print E-mail

The first EU Conference took place in 1993 just prior to the date that the first Treaty of the European Union came into force (Maastricht Treaty) leading to the European and Global EPH Declaration; the 2d Conference was hold in 2010 in the context of the Lisbon Treaty (which came into force on 1 December 2009) and in the context of the Agenda 2020 of the European Commission. Both later events take part in the same building in the heart of the European District of Brussels. They are as well held under the label of the Belgian Presidency of the European Union. The first European & Global Conference was carying out a mandate of follow-up of two Chapters of Agenda 21 (UNCED 1992) on behalf of WHO and with the support of UNEP, and other international and European organizations and committees.

Within the EPH framework a vertical line of cross-reference approach on specific thematic priority issues is developed. At each Annual Meeting they have both a basic research component and an (knowledge based) policy & prevention component.
